Lavers plays role in papal visit

20 September 2010

Timber from Arnold Laver has featured in papal furniture made specially for the Pope’s visit last week.

Arnold Laver donated prime European oak for the furniture, made by Rugby-based NEJ Stevenson Ltd, after responding to a call from The Timber Trade Federation to support the project.

Its participation in the project is expected to give the company some high-profile publicity.

The sustainability of the timber was of paramount importance and the product was FSC-certified.

Six dedicated pieces were made and were used at the Papal Nunciary in Wimbledon.

They include an altar, lectern, tabernacle stand, two server chairs and the celebrant's chair which contains the Pope’s coat of arms etched into the glass panel.
