20 July 2012

The world’s largest woodworking machinery and technology show has reported a 17% growth in exhibitor numbers for the 2013 event compared to the same time in the lead-up to Ligna 2011.

Organiser Deutsche Messe, which holds the event at Hannover Messe, said it was experiencing strong exhibitor demand, with about 800 companies so far booked in.

"This fantastic response underscores Ligna's position as the top international exhibition for the wood and forestry industries," said Dr Jochen Köckler. Deutsche Messe board member.

Ligna 2013 will include the "Handwerk, Holz & Mehr" section to show new production processes and materials for the skilled woodworking trades, while the issue of window systems energy efficiency will also be explored. Another key theme will be wood bioenergy.

A highlight will be the Lightweight Network, dedicated to looking at lightweight technology (such as panel products) as a driver of innovation in the furniture industry. Some products with honeycomb or sandwich construction can accommodate electrical equipment such as lights and iPod docks, as well as providing their core design and structural properties.

Egger, Häfele, Möbel Hunger and Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences will have displays in the network's exhibition area.

Ligna 2011 featured 1,723 exhibitors, occupying 130m2 of net display space and attracting 88,000 visitors.
