Luxembourg seeks PEFC endorsement

1 December 2004

The Luxembourg national forest certification system is the latest to seek Programme for the Endorsement Forest Certification (PEFC) Council endorsement.

The system, which will be assessed by independent consultant TRADA Technology Ltd, is currently on the PEFC website at www.pefc.org for public consultation and interested parties are asked to send their comments to TRADA by January 31, 2005.

President of PEFC Luxembourg Jospeh Crochet said: "Over one third of Luxembourg is covered with forests, providing high natural diversity and they contain a high percentage of broadleaved trees.

“Half of the forests are in private hands and 70% of these private owners own less than two hectares, often spread on different plots. A certification sytstem specially adapted to the Luxembourg conditions is therefore a necessity”
