Malaysian exhibition creates international “timber hub”

21 April 2010

The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) aims to create a “timber hub” with the Global WoodMart in Kuala Lumpur in October.

Speaking during a visit to London last week, MTC chief executive officer Cheah Kam Huan said the trade exhibition was aimed at the global timber industry and would cover softwoods, and temperate and tropical hardwoods from the raw material through to finished products.

Suppliers from around the world, including The American Hardwood Export Council, will exhibit, and visits to factories and forests can be arranged.

“It is an opportunity to meet suppliers from around the world in once place,” said Mr Cheah. “It’s a generic promotion of wood.”

The event, on October 19-20, is the first of its kind in South-east Asia and Mr Cheah said the aim was to make it a biennial international event.

The MTC is offering exhibitors an early bird discount of 5% for bookings made before May 30.
