Mercer International Inc has cemented its position as a leading mass timber construction provider in North America by receiving court approval to acquire substantially all of Structurlam’s assets.

The company announced on May 30 it received applicable Bankruptcy Court approval of a sales order approving the acquisition of substantially all of the assets of Structurlam Mass Timber Corporation and its subsidiaries, including a production facility located in Conway, Arkansas and production facilities in British Columbia, Canada, for $81.1m.

The proposed acquisition will materially increase Mercer’s cross-laminated timber capacity to approx. 210,000m3 of CLT and add 45,000m3 of glulam production capacity.

The addition of glulam capability will expand Mercer’s product offering and enhance its ability to service its growing customer base.

The Conway facility includes over 280,000ft2 of manufacturing space and is strategically located in the Southern United States in proximity to growing construction markets and with access to a large and high-quality regional wood resource.

“Our Mercer Mass Timber facility in Spokane Valley, Washington and the Conway facility are two of the most modern mass timber facilities in North America, which we believe will position us well to capitalize on the growing market share of CLT and glulam in the North American construction business,” said Juan Carlos Bueno, president and chief executive officer.

Mercer International Inc is a global forest products company with operations in Germany, the USA and Canada.
