Metsä Wood confirms closure of Kaskinen upgrading unit

4 October 2013

Metsä Wood has confirmed it is to close its upgrading and distribution unit in Kaskinen after concluding statutory labour negotiations.

It had previously announced in August that it was planning to close down the operations. ??During the negotiations, no commercially viable options could be found to continue the operations of the unit in Kaskinen, which also has a distribution operation.

The operations of the unit will be discontinued by the end of 2013, resulting in the reduction of 51 personnel. Wider redundancies in Metsä Wood’s operations in Finland total 80 staff. ??

”The closure will have no impact on Thermowood manufacture in Kaskinen or the operations of the Kolho impregnation plant,” the company said.

“Neither will the closure have any impact on Metsä Wood’s upgrading business in the United Kingdom and France.”
