Metsaliitto agrees temporary layoff terms

Metsaliitto has concluded negotiations with worker representatives for continuing temporary layoff procedures in 2010.

Under the agreement, the company can lay off personnel for 90 days if there is not enough “competitively priced timber” available, or “significant changes take place in the sawn timber market”.

“We will closely watch developments in end product markets and the business environment and evaluate the need for temporary layoffs jointly with personnel representatives,” said Wood Products Industry group executive vice president Ole Salven.

The deal covers 450 workers at six sawmills and runs to the end of June 2010.

Metsaliitto Wood Products Industry’s mills cut output in 2009 and production at the Kyroskoski and Karihaara plants was suspended until further notice.
