MGM posts £721k profit

24 August 2010

MGM Timber has achieved annual pre-tax profits of £721,000 in financial results which show it to be the largest independent timber merchant in Scotland.

The group, part of James Donaldsons & Sons, achieved sales of £29.5m, with business remaining steady throughout the recession and branch and employee numbers increasing over the past two years. Trading was up 22% for April 2009-June 2010, compared to the previous year.

MGM said planned to expand in Scotland and aimed to be the timber merchant of choice in each of its locations across the country.

“There is no secret in the fact that we aim to grow MGM further and are currently focusing on the Aberdeen area for our next branch,” said managing director Scott Cairns.

“We see great opportunities to develop further in Scotland and are determined to retain our position as the largest independent timber merchant north of the border.”

MGM said cost control had also been an important factor over the past two years.
