Modified wood use grows

The use of modified wood in the UK continues its expansion with Bracknell-based The Sash Window Workshop becoming the eighth joinery company to start using Accoya.

Rival modified wood brand Kurawood, based in Southampton, has also announced a production increase from 30,000m³ to 300,000m³ at its New Zealand plant.

Richard Dollar, managing director of The Sash Window Workshop, said Accoya met the company’s exacting standards for a sustainable and very durable timber.

“I believe Accoya will be the timber of the future, providing a superior product at a sensible cost, whilst also helping to preserve the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kurawood said its production increase, to be completed by the end of June, would help the company meet a growing order book.

“We are talking to a wide range of customers and are investing in factory expansion as a response to the levels of interest we have received,” said Kurawood sales and marketing director Kevin Fraser.

Both modified wood brands focus on taking radiata pine through a treatment process to give wood improved durability and stability characteristics.
