Modified wood windows protect lighthouse

12 January 2009

An historic Irish lighthouse has provided modified wood Accoya with its toughest job to date.

Abbey Woods, BSW Timber’s Irish agent for Accoya, and sash window specialist W&J Bolger Ltd combined to supply 27 timber windows for the Long Hill Lighthouse on the County Wicklow coastline.

Accoya was specified for the refurbishment of the 30m-high tower, built in 1781, due to its 60-year miminum service life. The Accoya windows replaced units that were installed during the last lighthouse refurbishment 15 years ago.

Abbey Woods won the exterior product of the show award at the recent Plan Expo exhibition in Dublin – Ireland’s showcase for the built environment.
