More praise for Finnish website

10 November 2008

UPM-Kymmene’s Forest Life website has been awarded the Pro Silvis medal from the Finnish Forest Association.

Forest Life is an interactive website designed to show members of the public how Finland’s forests bring economic, environmental and social benefits to the country from the comfort of their own homes.

The Pro Silvis medal is awarded to institutions promoting Finnish forestry. It follows double success at the 2007 European Excellence Awards, where Forest Life was named Best Website and came top in the Issues and Reputation Management category, as well as being named the Association of Finnish Foresters and Nordea Bank Forest Act of the Year 2007.

“When planning the website our target was to use different techniques to recreate the atmosphere of the forest and offer visitors a real forest experience,” said Päivi Salpakivi-Salomaa, director of environmental forestry affairs at UPM.

“Pro Silvis tells us we have succeeded.”

The Finnish Forest Association board added the website has enabled a worldwide audience to better understand the workings of Finnish forests, which would otherwise have been impossible.
