New head of Forest Research in Wales

Forest Research, the research agency of the Forestry Commission, has appointed Tom Jenkins as head of the agency in Wales. He replaces Professor Hugh Evans, who is retiring from the post.

Mr Jenkins joined Forest Research in February 2009 from Bangor University and prior to his new appointment was deputy programme group manager in the Forest Mensuration, Modelling and Forecasting group which is responsible for the research and development of forest measurement systems, the maintenance of measurement standards and development and implementation of models of forest growth and yield, biomass and carbon. He also supported the Forestry Commission's Woodland Carbon Code as the lead author of the Carbon Assessment Protocol.

Mr Jenkins is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Foresters.
