Norvik commissions Komi sawmill
5 December 2012Norwood, the Russian subsidiary of Norvik Timber Industries, has begun production at its new sawmill in the Komi Republic.
The sawmill at the company’s headquarters in Syktyvka was acquired second hand from Norway last year, but it took 15 months to relocate and commission, said Norwood managing director Aleksander Panyukov.
It will produce 90,000m3 of timber a year to be sold to former CIS markets and also to Norvik’s timber processing company Byko-Lat, one of the leading exporters of sawn and processed timber from Latvia.
Norvik CEO Sampsa Auvinen said: “Wood fibre quality and raw material availability in Komi is good and the new sawmill will be of strategic importance for the group.”
