Obituary – James Grant Duncan Munro

22 December 2011

Duncan Munro passed away recently in his native Ross-shire at the age of 91. Mr Munro, the son of a timber merchant, was involved in the home-grown timber industry and ran the very successful and innovative JGD Munro Sawmills in Dingwall.

Mr Munro was greatly respected by local land owners from whom he bought his round timber, his employees, several of whom spent their whole working lives with him, his customers and his many friends and competitors in the industry.

He was a great rifle shot and took many stags off Ben Wyvis. He was a most sociable man who enjoyed a dram and made a pretty lethal birch sap wine.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and is survived by his wife Sigrid, daughters Edith and Karina, son Peter, seven grandchildren and one great grandson.
