Obituary – John Murphy

John Murphy, former managing director of Vincent Murphy & Co Ltd, has died. He had been ill for some time.

Mr Murphy, joined the family timber importing business as a school leaver in 1957, starting as an office boy and then progressing through the ranks to become managing director and chairman.

He believed in leading by example and his enthusiasm and work rate was boundless and infectious.

After 42 successful years with Vincent Murphy, in 1994 he sold the business to the management so that he and his wife Angela could spend more time with their two sons and five grandchildren.

Mr Murphy was a member of the North West Timber Trade Association and served as its president from 1978-1980.
