Obituary – Matt Clark

Matt Clark, a former secretary of the Scottish Timber Trade Association and a director of Muirhead & Sons and Mallinson-Denny Scotland Ltd, of Grangemouth, died on January 19, aged 87 years.

Mr Clark was well known to many in the Scottish timber trade and in the community in Grangemouth.

He was brought up in Rutherglen, where he met his wife to be, Marion, and saw service in the Royal Navy, including North Atlantic duty.

He qualified as a chartered accountant in Glasgow, before joining Muirhead & Sons Ltd of Grangemouth, a timber importer and merchant which developed a significant timber engineering business.

Mr Clark was a member of Grangemouth Rotary Club, a keen football supporter and was active in the Church of Scotland, both in Grangemouth and as a committee member in Edinburgh.

On his retirement from business, he was appointed secretary of the Scottish Timber Trade Association in 1989, which he served until 1993, where his attention to detail and kindness were greatly valued.

Mr Clark is survived by his wife, Marion, son Matt, daughter-in-law Mandy and three grandsons, Matthew, Robert and Cameron.
