Obituary – Tony Walton

Tony Walton passed away peacefully on December 13 after a long fight with illness.

Mr Walton spent the whole of his working life in the timber trade, starting as a management trainee with a private company in Greater Manchester before moving to Alfred Hulme Ltd in Chorley, Lancashire where directly or indirectly he remained for the rest of his working life.

He became a director of Alfred Hulme in l977 and stayed with the company as divisional director when the business was sold a few years later to Powell Duffryn. He moved in the same capacity within the company to the Palgrave Brown Division and remained in the same position when Palgrave Brown sold its timber interests to Meyer International. Later he was part of the management buyout team which bought the division from Meyer and continued as a director of that company until his retirement in 2008.

During his time in the trade Mr Walton served on a number of trade organisations. He represented the company at the Timber Trade Federation, was a director the Trussed Rafter Association for a number of years, and was president of the TTBS Midlands region and past president of the Liverpool Timber Trade Golfing Society.

He is survived by Sandie his wife, daughter Michelle and two grandchildren.
