Ohra and Combilift combine at Slovenian mill

Cantilever racking from Ohra has provided a 50% increase in storage capacity for one of the largest sawmills in Slovenia.

The racking has been erected in a new warehouse designed to hold Svelc’s range of sawn wood products, including floorboards.

The sawmill, in Kokrica near Krnj, decided to invest to boost storage capacity, improve processes and store the material under safer conditions. The three-aisle warehouse is 5.7m high and is serviced by Combilift narrow-aisle fork lift trucks.

Svelc said one of the reasons for choosing Ohra as racking supplier was its use of hot-rolled steel as this meant rack supports yield elastically if impacted while retaining their high vertical load capacity.

Storage capacity has risen to 1,000m3, with products stored on four levels, featuring 1200mm-long cantilever arms with a load-bearing capacity of 1,250kg.

Guide rails are incorporated at the bottom of racks to enable two Combilift four-ways fork lifts to operate safely. Svelc said its investment had speeded up access to products and signficantly reduced damage to racks and stored wood, while offering greater stock reliability and improved inventory management.
