Papua concession gains VLO

One of the biggest concessions in the Indonesian province of Papua has achieved Verification of Legal Origin (VLO) certification with help from The Forest Trust’s Timber Trade Action Plan.

PT Wapoga Mutiara Timber gained its VLO certificate for its Forest Management Unit (FMU) II, the sawmill Wapoga Mutiara Industries and the Moulding Factory Kharisma Duta Utama.

The FMU II Covers an area of 196,900ha on Papua with merbau as the principal species harvested. The VLO certificate demonstrates that all licences and permits comply with the standard, that royalties and taxes have been paid and a “robust” chain of custody that enables final product to be traced back to ‘origin’ is in place.
