PEFC announces global review results

23 July 2008

The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes’ (PEFC) governance review has outlined 39 recommendations to help the organisation meet its new strategic plan.

This includes updating its management and board structures, launching a specific tropical timber initiative, engaging more with the Forest Stewardship Council on mutual concerns and quantifying its environmental, economical, social and political impact.

PEFC’s board of directors has already considered the recommendations and has deemed them to be a “valuable contribution and follow up on the PEFC strategy”.

“We have now the mandate to implement some of the operational elements recommended in the governance review,” said PEFC secretary-general Ben Gunneberg.

“And we are currently consulting with our members on these and expect to be able to consider other elements in due course.”
