Plywood building system trialled

21 December 2011

UPM has teamed up with Danish architects to develop a new plywood house building system.

A pilot project has seen the construction of a wooden villa in Denmark using UPM’s WISA spruce plywood as the structural material.

Architects Eentileen.dk believe the system, called Print a House, could be a significant innovation with considerable potential for use on international markets.

“The project used new ways of working with wood,” said UPM.

“The modelling was by computer simulation and the plywood structures needed were made with a CNC machine. The construction itself required only two people and no large storage areas or heavy machinery were needed.”

The architects’ focused strongly on reducing environmental impact of construction.
