Plywood showcase held at Tilbury

17 April 2024

Timber traders were invited to the Port of Tilbury last week for a Malaysian rubberwood plywood showcase held by Plaut International and its manufacturing supplier Hok Lai.

A steady stream of buyers inspected the PEFC-certified plywood at Uniserve, London Mega Terminal, taking the opportunity to speak to the team from Hok Lai, who explained the qualities and composition of the product, pricing and fielded technical questions.

The Malaysian Timber Council were also in attendance.

With the spotlight on Russian birch plywood and the lack of exports from Russia due to sanctions, Hok Lai is concentrating on its birch replacement plywood alternative. They also have commercial BBCC and Marine plywood products as well.

Products included melamine faced, film faced and mesh faced products, as well as  bleach poplar faced panels.

An extensive article about the product showcase will feature in the next issue of TTJ.
