Tropical timber specialist Rougier is preparing to bring large volumes of FSC-certified products to the European market after achieving FSC forest certification covering 688,262ha in Gabon.

The French company has also secured FSC chain of custody certification for its international trading arm and subsidiary Rougier Gabon, enabling it to track wood from the forest to the consumer.

Forest certification relates to Rougier Gabon in Haut-Abanga, Ogooué-Ivindo and Léké.

“FSC certification opens up new opportunities for us,” said Marc-Antoine Mallet, Rougier’s chief operating officer.

“It enables Rougier to bring 3,000m3 of FSC-certified okoume plywood, 1,500m3 of FSC-certified okoume sawn-timber and related products and 6,000m3 of logs from various species to market every month.”

The company wants to see 100% of its forests certified and is to expand production of FSC-certified okoume for use in products such as windows, doors, mouldings, panels, plywood and boats.
