Round-the-world launch date looms

5 May 2014

Norbord Europe business consultant Dave McElroy and fellow Canadian pilot Chris Elgar will launch their 80-day round-the-world flight on May 12.

The flight is 44,000 statute miles so is being completed in two legs - from Toronto on May 12 and then from Perth on May 19.

Their route will take them across Continental Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australia, the Pacific, the US, Central and South America and Canada, before returning to Perth.

The flight - in a single-engined Piper Comanche- is raising funds for two charities - Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance and SickKids Foundation of Toronto.

Sponsors have the opportunity to fly parts of the three-month route with the pilots.

Timber industry sponsors include BSW, Norbord, TFS, Consolidated Timber Holdings and MBM.
