Sarawak plywood makers accused of dumping

5 May 2010

The Sarawak Timber Association and the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation are reportedly preparing a response to refute allegations that plywood exporters from the state have been dumping their products in South Korea.

The International Tropical Timber Organisation’s latest market report highlighted news reports which suggested both Malaysian groups would submit a joint response position paper to the South Korean Trade Commission.

The South Korean Trade Commission started an investigation after being lobbied by the Korean Wood Panel Association, which claimed some Malaysian plywood manufacturers were selling products below cost.

More than 530,000m³ of Malaysian panel products were imported by South Korea in 2009.
