SCA Timber Supply Swedish trip marks ten years of customer training

15 April 2011

Celebrating ten years of its customer training programme, SCA Timber Supply has taken two groups of graduates from its merchant timber courses on trips to visit its parent's operations in Sweden.

Two groups, totalling 29 customer employees, visited SCA’s tree nursery, part of its 2.6 million ha of FSC-certified forests and one of its eight sawmills.

The first group, which travelled late March, were “Timber Champions” from Buildbase, including top graduate and winner of the SCA/Buildbase cup Ian Houghton of Buildbase Norwich, and John Lea, Buildbase regional director north.

The second group, which visited Sweden in the first week of April, included SCA course graduates from EH Smith, Chandlers, Arnold Laver Timberworld, Homebase, plus top entrants from the 2010 TTJ Career Development Award, which SCA Timber Supply also sponsors.

SCA pointed out that the later group comprised as many young women as men: “proving the timber trade’s appeal as a positive career choice”.
