Scottish timber trade gathers in Edinburgh

14 November 2013

More than 160 timber traders from the UK and overseas gathered together at the Balmoral Hotel for the Scottish Timber Trade Dinner.

Importers, merchants, sawmillers, panel producers and agents were among the throng at the event near Edinburgh Castle on October 30.

Scottish Timber Trade Association (STTA) secretary David Sulman, addressing guests, said the timber trade had weathered the prolonged downturn, with prospects now looking better and a steadily increasing air of confidence returning to the trade and its customers.

Afterwards, Mr Sulman said the dinner, a biennial event, had been another successful event.

“People are such an important part of our industry, yet opportunities for getting together, especially outside of business, are not so common these days, so it was good to see such a good attendance and that everyone enjoyed themselves,” he said.
