Södra signals terminal opening

8 July 2014

Södra is set to open a new rail terminal capable of handling around 300,000m3 of timber a year.

The site in Falköping is close to the members' timber, which will serve the expansion at the pulp mill in Värö, and is the largest investment Södra has ever made in a terminal. Much of the timber will be transported to Väro and Mönsteras.

It covers an area of 6ha - the equivalent to 12 football pitches - and the company has established its own timber terminals. The terminal is sited in a new logistics area covering around 70ha. The Falköping municipality has also set up an intermodal terminal alongside, which, said Södra, will benefit its operation through shared service and fuelling facilities.

"We have been working on this project for two years and now we are ready to inaugurate," said project manager Björn Karlsson.
