Sikkens publishes guidance for joinery specifiers

9 June 2004

As part of its campaign to raise standards throughout the joinery industry, Sikkens has published a specifier's guide to fully factory-finished windows and doors and their maintenance.

The 20-page Joinery Plus guide is named to mirror the company's Sentinel Plus Wood Protection Programme. The latter, which partners Sikkens with joinery companies, local authorities and housing associations, ensures maintenance is carried out at the correct times.

"Like Sentinel Plus, Joinery Plus is also designed to build up the market by partnering through the supply chain," said Geoff Taylor, Sikkens general sales manager, joinery.

The publication includes advice on timber selection along with guidance on individual species, sustainability issues, the benefits of factory finishing and problem solving. The Institute of Wood Science, the British Woodworking Federation, the American Hardwood Export Council and Timbmet all partnered the project by supplying the relevant information.

"Greater clarity of information is vital, particularly with the increase in regulations," said Mr Taylor. "Our aim is to raise standards throughout the joinery industry and we will be concentrating on talking to specifiers and working with manufacturers increasingly in the future in order to grow the supply chain," he added.
