Stamco buys eight Combilifts

South coast timber and building materials merchant Stamco has bought eight Combilift trucks for its main site as part of a 19-vehicle replacement programme across the group.

Seven of the latest 4-wheeled sideloaders and one electric powered C300 EST have been supplied by dealer Mexmast to the St Leonards-on-Sea site in East Sussex. Stamco said up to 6,000m3 of raw materials and finished goods are held there and the new trucks will handle more than 60,000m3 a year.

The company added that the 5.5-acre site has a steep slope between levels and handling 6m-long timber packs when wet and covered in leaves had caused particular problems.

Operations director John Cornelius said in addition to its better traction from an automatic locking differential, the Combilift was also chosen for its ultra-clean Deutz engine having had issues in the past with soot particles settling on timber and compromising the product.

Stamco supplies prepared timber, mouldings, treated timbers and building materials from branches in St Leonards, Hove, Eastbourne and Shoreham. It is also replacing Combilifts at other branches with three new C4000 4-way models.

The fleet renewal coincides with the introduction of the new Combilift 4WSL series. "Having traditionally worked with 4-wheeled sideloaders in our timber business we wanted to continue down that path in our merchant division," said Mr Cornelius.
