Stewart Milne sets sights on Glasgow

With the London Olympics and Paralympics over, Stewart Milne Timber Systems is turning its attention to the Commonwealth Games 2014.

The timber buildings specialist won the contract to supply and put up the timber frames for 184 housing units in the Athletes Village in Glasgow's East End, which will accommodate 6,500 athletes and officials.

The site is being developed by the city council in partnership with the private sector, and following the games will be further developed into a 1,000-home residential district.

The company said each house type had to be capable in design and structure to be converted from athletes' accommodation into family housing. Stewart Milne will complete its work next August.

Group managing director for timber systems Alex Goodfellow said: "This is a prestigious development demanding high quality design, flexibility and speed of build. Timber build systems can meet all of that and can meet very high standards of thermal and acoustic performance as well."
