Swedish sawmillers look to grow Chinese business

16 December 2013

Swedish sawmillers are undertaking major efforts to build their business in China, with 11 of the largest suppliers attending a Sino-Swedish Wood day in Shanghai in December.

And according to event organiser Swedish Wood, Chinese customers expressed significant interest in the products displayed for use in the joinery and furniture sectors.

The event, also involving the China Furniture Association and the China Timber & Wood Product Distribution Association, comes as Swedish wood exports to China have almost tripled since 2012. Sawn timber exports are expected to reach 400,000m3 in 2013 and up to 700,000m3 in 2014.

“The potential for Swedish wood exports to China is very big,” said Mikael Eliasson, director of Swedish Wood.
