TEK goes into Orbit – in Northampton

2 September 2008

Kingspan Off-Site’s TEK build system has been used in the construction of a series of environmentally-friendly homes in Northamptonshire.

Orbit First Step, the low-cost home ownership division of property management firm Orbit Group Ltd, specified the TEK system for the Peaselands development in Desborough on the basis of its thermal insulation.

TEK uses a 110mm rigid urethane insulation sandwiched between two sheets of OSB, offering zero ozone depletion and global warming potential according to Kingspan Off-Site. This is coupled with a “unique sealed jointing system”, which limits the amount of air passing through the joints once constructed.

It has been combined with rainwater harvesting, air source heat pumps and solar panels to make the three-bedroom properties as environmentally-friendly as possible.

“The Peaselands development uses a combination of renewable technologies to offer a really modern way of living that will lower fuel bills for residents as well as helping to protect the environment from harmful CO2 emissions,” said Karen Coleman, marketing manager at Orbit First Step.

“This development shows that you can have affordable homes that use the most modern methods of sustainable construction.”

Homes at Peaselands also feature double-glazed timber windows and cladding, helping them to achieve the EcoHomes rating of ‘excellent’.
