Tembec praised for change

Canadian firm Tembec has been award the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Winds of Change Award for “changing the face of forestry and the wood industry”.

FSC Canada said that the award was given to Tembec because it has worked to develop a “wide range of environmentally-friendly and socially responsible FSC-certified wood products”, with millions of hectares of the company’s forests certified to FSC standards.

Tembec president and chief executive officer James Lopez said the company had 8.8 million ha of FSC-certified forestry under its management, making it “the largest producer of FSC-certified products in the world”.

“This prestigious award recognises our ongoing commitment to our FSC partnership and the leadership role that Tembec has taken in responsible forest management.”

Tembec records annual sales of around C$3.5bn and employs 9,000 across 50 facilities, where it produces pulp, papers and wood products, including engineered wood products, such as I-joists and LVL; softwood, hardwood and pine lumber; finger-jointed lumber; and hardwood flooring.
