Timber office building wins Finnish Wood Award

7 November 2011

The Finnish Wood Award has been won by a timber frame office building and science centre using Finnforest engineered wood products.

Metsähallitus’s Pilke House features an exposed glulam post and beam construction, with intermediate floors and the roof made of Finnforest Kerto LVL elements.

Pilke House is being seen as an excellent example of the competitiveness of wood as a construction material in office buildings, with project coming in €450,000 under budget, while carbon emissions during construction were only one-third of those of corresponding building made from other materials.

Client Metsähallitus is a Finnish state-owned logging enterprise, administering more than 12 million ha of land, forests and water.
