Timbmet team takes on Royal Marines

15 November 2010

A group of employees from Timbmet were put through their paces recently when they took part in the Royal Marine Commando Challenge.

The event is billed as one of the UK’s most gruelling charity challenges and the team of five had to complete the same 10k multi-terrain assault course which is used by the Royal Marines for training new recruits.

Competing against 180 teams, the Timbmet team finished a commendable third in the mixed team category.

It was the third year the team had taken part third place is its best result to date.

“As the name suggests, it was certainly a challenge,” said Timbmet business manager Andy Roff. “We encountered numerous obstacles, underground tunnels and lots of bogs. By the time we had finished we were soaking wet and covered from head to toe in mud. However, while the aches and pains lasted a few days afterwards, the satisfaction we got from competing and raising much-needed funds for charity made it all worthwhile.”

The Timbmet team raised £800 in sponsorship and the money will be donated to the Commando Challenge Event’s chosen charities, Devon Air Ambulance and ‘C’ Group Royal Marines, a charity that helps Royal Marines injured in Afghanistan.

The Timbmet team comprised Andy Roff, business manager; Lee Wells, lead product specialist - panel products; Richard Dawkes, commercial accounting manager; Grant Thompson, warehouse operative; and Dada Denti.
