15 September 2007

UKWoodchain (UKW), Timbmet and Holz Schiller have established a new strategic body to protect “the good name of [engineered] wood”.

The trio agreed to establish the Rapid Technology Transfer Group (RTTG) after meeting to discuss the establishment of benchmarks to protect the timber industry against inferior engineered wood products (EWP).

UKW’s Mike Marchant said that the RTTG will work to ensure the quality of technology entering the market, offering an endorsement scheme for companies looking to promote their latest EWP innovations.

He added that the RTTG wlll work with companies and colleges to ensure that there is adequate training provision for new technologies and that employees are capable with new machines and processes, with the group hoping to foster more home-grown research and development into cutting-edge technologies as a result.

The RTTG is due to be at Interbuild, where it will be discussing biosecurity and wood technology in relation to interfacing technologies.
