Truss-Tech doubles up

28 July 2006

A Ripley-based construction company has used two-ply trusses in its new headquarters building.

Trussed Rafter Association member Truss-Tech supplied 75 trusses, designed and fabricated using the MiTek system, to Crown Construction.

Trusses comprised stress-graded timber certified by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes, with the 35mm-thick sections joined with nail plates and then doubled up to meet long span loading conditions.

Truss-Tech worked closely with Crown to ensure trusses could handle tile weight and potential snow load in the 18m span roof, which is towards the upper limit for timber trussed rafters.

Just 13 of the two-ply trusses rise to full ridge height due to the hipped roof design.
