TTF faces biggest vote in years

13 June 2008

Timber Trade Federation chief executive John White has underlined the importance of a vote on responsible sourcing at next week’s TTF AGM.

A recommendation will be made at the June 18 meeting, to be held at the TTF’s Building Centre offices, that an environmental due diligence policy, similar to the TTF’s Responsive Purchasing Policy, become a condition of membership.

“This is singularly the most important debate undertaken by the TTF in many years and I am convinced that a positive resolution will raise the status of the TTF and shout “TTF members lead the world in responsible sourcing,” wrote Mr White in the second edition of The Federation’s new format newsletter.

He said the federation saw due diligence as a central plank in the fight against illegal logging and hopes that making a scheme a condition of membership would send a clear signal that the TTF and members were bolstering their commitment to tackling the issue.
