UKTFA elects new chairman

25 February 2013

The UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA) has elected Lawrence Young as chairman, on a two-year tenure.

Mr Young, co-owner and director of Young Black, a fastening company that supplies the timber frame and construction market, has been involved in the construction industry for more than 30 years. He and his brother-in-law established Young Black in 1979. Over the past five years he has sat on various UKTFA committees, including the membership, quality and PR and marketing committees.

The appointment marks the first time a non-manufacturer has held the position of UKFTA chairman, with a special modification to the association's charter needed to allow the appointment.

Mr Young said he was pleased to be taking up the post at such an exciting time for the timber frame industry.

"With zero carbon targets to meet and the government embracing efficient offsite build methods, there has never been a better time to be driving timber forward," he said.

"My ambitions include expanding the association to involve other structural timber groups; increasing the market for member companies, and increasing the differentiation between members and non-member companies. The association and the sector are on a journey of growth and evolution. I look forward to working with our members and engaging key stakeholders to increase market share."
