UKTFA launches Scottish energy guidance

23 April 2008

The UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA) has published guidance on how timber frame construction can satisfy Section 6 of the Scottish Building Standards.

Section 6, looking at conservation of fuel and power, was brought in as part of a wealth of new energy efficiency regulations for new buildings introduced to Scotland last year and forms part of the drive to reduce the country's carbon emissions.

The UKTFA Technical Guidance provides examples of how timber can be used in various applications such as walls, roofs and floors, with case studies showing an end-terrace or semi-detached house, a detached two-storey house, a detached bungalow, an end-terrace three-storey town house and a ground floor flat.

Additional advice is also given on how to encourage good workmanship and on-site practices to ensure maximum thermal performance and air tightness from finished developments.

It is designed for regulation bodies assessing applications, as well as architects, specifiers and designers considering using timber frame.
