UPM expands sawmill bio heating

3 October 2013

A new bio heating plant that uses bark for heat energy generation has been commissioned at the UPM Korkeakoski sawmill in Finland.

The former heating plant at Korkeakoski, which has now closed, used bark but also relied on fossile fuel for additional energy.

The company said the plant improves the sawmill's efficiency and also ends transportation of fossil fuel waste woodstuffs, now burned on site.

UPM Korkeakoski produces redwood sawn timber from Finnish pine and has an annual capacity of around 300,000m3.
