Whitmore's strikes gold twice

26 October 2004

Whitmore's Timber Co Ltd, which supplied the English oak for Norwich Cathedral Visitors' Centre, winner of the Wood Awards' top prize, the Gold Award, also supplied English oak for the Gold Award trophy, a facsimile of Norwich Cathedral's spire.

The trophy, made by sculptor Ray Winder, will be presented to the Dean and Chapter for display at the Cathedral. Judges' chairman Giles Downs of Sidell Gibson described the visitors' centre as "a real gem".

The Wood Awards were held at Carpenters' Hall in London on October 19.
