Willmott Dixon man joins PEFC

15 October 2012

Steve Cook, principal consultant for Willmott Dixon’s in-house sustainability consultancy Re-Thinking, has joined the PEFC UK Board.

As part of Willmott Dixon Re-Thinking, Mr Cook provides technical and practical support on materials, carbon, waste and sustainable procurement to all divisions of the Willmott Dixon Group and has recently been behind the company's sustainable procurement policy.

He also chairs the UK Contractors Group (UKCG) Materials Task Group which, through engagement with the construction industry, helps its members develop policies to improve procurement. He is also a council member of the responsible sourcing scheme, Eco-Reinforcement.

"As chair of the UKCG Materials Task Group, I recognise the key role that certified timber plays in helping to deliver sustainable construction and I'm looking forward to helping PEFC strengthen its engagement with major contractors," said Mr Cook.

Alun Watkins, head of PEFC UK, said Mr Cook's experience would help the organisation to better understand and meet UK construction contractors' requirements.

The UKCG requires that all timber products purchased for either temporary or permanent use on member sites be certified as legally and sustainably sourced, as defined by the government's Central Point of Expertise on Timber.
