WJ Group invests at new Hull site

The investment follows the recent move of its entire Hull based timber treatment facility to a brand new bespoke built facility.

The new technology offers the ability to coat lengths of timber with both translucent stains in addition to opaque, painted finishes. Able to prime and topcoat, the service is designed to help businesses save time.

External treated timbers can also be coated and one useful example is the staining of timber to be used on log clad cabins.

“Our new vacuum coating service means that we can offer yet another important service to our customers, partnering with them to treat and coat their timber, to facilitate a specific project or on an ongoing basis,” said Mark Eggleston, WJ Group managing director.

WJ’s new Hull site offers additional high pressure preservative treatment capacity, fully compliant with the new IED legislation, coupled with additional, undercover storage space to enhance the drying process and any post treatment procedures.

The site was officially opened on September 24 by Lord Haskins, chair of Humber Local Enterprise Partnership.

The Wood Protection Association (WPA) and WJ Group’s treatment supplier BASF Wolman Gmbh also attended the event.

“The WJ plant in Hull establishes a centre of excellence providing both a preservative and fire retardant treatment service for the timber supply chain in the north of England,” said Stephen Young, WPA director.

“WJ Hull was the first service treatment centre in the UK to achieve the coveted WPA Benchmark of quality, which is independent reassurance that wood is treated in line with British Standard specifications.
