Wood fibre insulation features in Expo houses

Natural Building Technology’s wood fibre insulation systems have featured at Scotland’s first Housing Expo.

Thirteen of the Expo’s 25 architects specified a variety of NBT wood fibre systems, including Diffutherm, Pavaclad and Pavaroof.

Oliver Chapman’s single-storey timber frame Skewed House, named after its offset roof ridgeline, uses NBT Isolair wood fibre boards to insulate the external walls, with NBT Pavaflex wood fibre batts as infill insulation between the studs.

Pavatherm Profil is used to insulate the floor, with Pavaflex batts between the rafters.

NBT said the thermal performance of the structure was 25% better than Building Standards for the walls, 14% for the floors, 42% for the roof and 22% for the windows.

The aim of the Expo is to inspire forthcoming housing developments across the UK and comprises 52 homes, all of which are based on winning design entries in the 2007 Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland competition.
