Wyckham Blackwell completes care contract

18 October 2007

Timber engineering firm Wyckham Blackwell has completed work on a care hospital, which required the company to provide 6m laminated structural beams and more than 500 roof trusses.

Wyckham Blackwell, a member of the Trussed Rafter Association, created an open entrance space using the beams and supplied the roof elements of the two wings of the Severn Hospice in Telford, which were installed by the main contractor.

The trusses, with a 22.5° pitch, were designed by Wyckham Blackwell to provide maintenance space and were supplied with trimmers and infill timbers to house rooflights used to illuminate the building.

According to Wyckham Blackwell, it was awarded the contract due to its ability to “supply an integrated solution” to the “aesthetic, structural and logistical requirements of the project”.
