Anglo-French venture targets global expansion in timber treatment market

Two leading UK and French companies have joined forces to secure global contracts for the supply of specialist timber treatment and preservation equipment.

Timber Treatment Solutions is a joint venture between English firm Timber Preservation Technologies (TPT), formerly known as Tweddle Engineering, and Métallerie du Sud Lorrain (MSL) based near Nancy in eastern France.

Both specialise in the design, manufacture and installation of state-of-the-art equipment used for preserving timber for construction, manufacture of wood products and landscaping.

The decision to create a joint venture and undertake a long-term growth strategy under the Timber Treatment Solutions brand will enable them to promote global sales of TPT and MSL products in territories such as Europe, Scandinavia and the currently untapped markets in North and South America and Eastern Europe.

Together, the businesses have more than 60 years’ experience, initially with the fabrication of automatic dipping tanks to apply insecticide and fungicide protection, and the design and manufacture of pressure treatment plants, autoclaves and utilisation of the latest wood treatments.

“Consolidation in the market is creating larger contracts so it makes perfect sense for two industry-leading companies to work together and share resources,” said Timber Treatment Solutions director Joe Watson.

“The efficiencies that can be achieved by pooling functions such as design and manufacturing will enable Timber Treatment Solutions to service these contracts, supply the products required without duplication, and compete on the global market.”

While Timber Treatment Solutions head office will be in Cumbria, northern England, both TPT and MSL will continue to operate from their existing headquarters. The services on offer range from bespoke, retrofit control systems to fully automated lights-out timber treatment.
