Charles Hopping addresses softwood conference

The event is billed by organisers as being held in the context of a global market?on the ‘economic upswing’, promising a ‘successful, optimistic event’.

The ISC takes place in Hamburg from 4 to 6 October and is hosted by the German Timber Federation GD Holz, in association with the European Organisation of Sawmillers and European Timber Trade Federation.

Mr Hopping will address latest UK softwood market developments. Other speakers will include Dr Holger Weimar of Germany’s Thünen Forestry Institute, who will address macroeconomics and the timber sector and Dr Tanja Haas- Lensing of Haas Fertigbau, who will look at the future of softwood construction.

Among presenters on other specific markets will be Don Kayne, president of Canfor Corporation on Canada, Mohamed Loudghiri, softwood procurement manager at Robelbois on North Africa, Sviatoslav Bychkov on Russia and Shen Wei of?the China Timber and Wood Products Distribution Association on China.

ETTF and EOS presidents Andreas von Möller and Sampsa Auvinen will look at European market developments.

The gala dinner on 5 October takes place in the Elbphilarmonie concert hall, described as Hamburg’s new architectural landmark.
