IDS announce the passing of Dave Stubbs

Highly experienced UK wood-based panels industry executive Dave Stubbs has died aged 71, his former employer IDS has announced.

Mr Stubbs, who died after a short illness, joined IDS in 2005 as national product manager, working in the panel products division of the business.

He performed a range of responsibilities including sales, procurement and managing key accounts. He retired from IDS in 2018.

But his experience in the trade goes back over 40 years and he was a true veteran of the UK timber trade and panel industry.

He joined the timber industry in the early 1970’s. He was the manager responsible for panel at John Ashworths, Manchester, had a spell at his own timber and panel trading business, Porter Stubbs, and held positions at K&B and BCL before joining IDS.

“Dave was the panel manager at John Ashworth’s and he was my first boss,” said John Bagshaw, managing director at IDS.

“Throughout his career, he was always a proper trader and the people who knew him, know exactly what that means. He was an expert in the field and incredibly knowledgeable. He always worked hard on behalf of customers and made things happen.

“He was never phased by a challenge and would always look for a solution. Dave had a very sharp sense of humour, liked a pint and a game of cards and he was a very likeable and popular member of the IDS team. He was a true character of our industry and it has been my privilege to know and work with him for over forty years.”
